The basis of the performance piece stems from my response to the creative budget cut, which has a disproportionate impact towards minority groups. The proposal has been swept under the rugs and have not been acknowledged since then. This uncertainty is causing angst in the community of the possibility of limitation of accessibility and rights to creativity. The intention behind the performance piece is to create conversation through the tools of performance and dance to tell a story and to ignite a discussion regarding people’s experiences and response the issue. Hence the name kaikōrero which means narrator and speaker in Te Reo Maori The engagement being the audience seeing the importance of self-expression through performance.
